by Senator Ihenyen, Lead Partner
It is now 9 years since I founded Infusion Lawyers. But it still feels like yesterday. Over the years, the journey has been a testament of the power of bold imagination and execution. But perhaps more importantly is the value we’ve created along this journey, beyond all odds. This is what makes the journey all worthwhile.
Today, as we approach the 10th anniversary of Infusion Lawyers on 26 April 2027, I find myself looking less at where we’ve been and more at where we are going. For nearly a decade, we’ve been the “agile boutique”—the firm that moves fast, breaks silos, and navigates the complexities of the digital economy for our clients.
But 2026 marks a defining moment in our journey. We call it The Pivot.
Institutionalizing Innovation
At Infusion Lawyers, we are moving beyond being a high-growth boutique to becoming an institutional authority. Our Strategic Master Plan 2026—a plan that my partner Stephen Azubuike also shares with me—is built on a singular theme: Institutionalizing Innovation. Essentially, it’s no longer enough to only respond to the legal landscape; we are now committed to architecting it as well.
The Five Pillars of the Future
Our roadmap to the decade is anchored by four strategic pillars. These pillars are designed to capture the value of the ecosystems we have spent nearly a decade helping to build as partner in innovation to our clients and partners:
- The Policy House: I like to say, in the same line of thoughts with Abraham Lincoln (or Peter Drucker), that the best way to predict the future is to draft it. Through the Infusion Policy Lab (IPL), we are transitioning from participating in policy discussions to driving it and helping to design the frameworks that will govern the future of the digital economy and emerging technologies in Africa.
- The Venture Counsel: We are deepening our integration with high-growth startups—moving from one-off advisory to becoming the long-term engine behind their scale-up. We will introduce a new product offering which we have developed to provide more accessible and tailored venture counsel services.
- The Launchpad: After nearly a decade of helping startups and SMEs de-risk their businesses for healthy growth, it’s time to enable and support a platform for founders by derisking their innovations, thus opening the windows of investments wider. In collaboration with Pinpoint Launchpad, we are getting set to launch ahead of our 10th anniversary. Watch this space.
- The Sphere: The future of law is not a place. It’s a skillset; a culture; an epicenter of trust. As Nigeria’s first virtual law firm, long before Covid 19, we made history by proving that the law doesn’t necessarily need a physical desk—it needs sharp minds, the right technology, and the winning culture. And with this foundation and philosophy, we introduced our Virtual Legal Internships in 2017. Having invested in the future of law through these internships over the years—some of whom are now part of the law firm’s legal team—we are now opening the gates to the next generation. In place of our virtual legal internship, we are introducing The Infusion Sphere—a 2-month virtual practical accelerator designed to turn law undergraduates and graduates into future-ready practitioners. The Infusion Sphere is going to be a 360-degree training environment where interns learn the “Infusion way” of practice through hands-on professional guidance, redacted real-world cases, masterclasses in tech law, and mentorship in law practice as a business, all without the boundaries of a traditional internship.
- The Bridge: I believe that African innovation belongs on the global stage and that global capital deserves a secure, professional gateway into Africa. As we go into our second decade, we look forward to positioning, with more intentionality, as an FDI bridge. Here, we turning belief into billions in realized value. Essentially, we will strengthen our bridge between the Nigerian Diaspora and foreign investors across key markets in Africa. We are creating a business environment that makes investment in Africa—with Nigeria at the heart of it—the obvious choice.
The Tech-Driven Edge
Infusion Lawyers is already known as the pioneer of virtual law practice in Africa. To lead the next level of innovation, our tech & talent stack will evolve—and it already is. By integrating AI for operational efficiency and leveraging our pioneering virtual platform for enhanced matter management, we are ensuring that our team spends less time on process and more time on high-impact strategy.
And as we have done in our first decade of Infusion Lawyers, I look forward to the law firm building on our work in the legal innovation space to inspire and support more legal-tech and tech-law innovators in the industry and beyond. This is because to be able to keep creating new economies and opportunities in the knowledge economy and the digital age, we must not only keep pushing the boundaries of innovation but also strategically support key value chains across the ecosystem for shared prosperity.
The Road to 2027
2026 is our year of the pivot from agility to authority. We are building rails to the future and operationalizing our advocacy into lasting partnerships and impact across ecosystems.
To our clients and innovators we represent, as well as our partners: you can expect that beyond being your lawyers, we are now also your strategic architects. We are institutionalizing the very innovation that defines you.
The countdown to our 10th Anniversary, 26 April 2027, has begun. The best is yet to come.
