It is no longer news that apart from other emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), Blockchain technology is going to significantly impact the legal industry and other industries that lawyers provide services to. This impact would be huge, thus demanding that every lawyer—both young and old—reposition their legal practices and law business before they are disrupted.
This is where Blockchain for Lawyers 101 comes in.
Blockchain for Lawyers 101 introduces lawyers to what the Blockchain is, why it affects lawyers, and how lawyers can equip themselves with the required knowledge and skills to provide legal advisory services to Governments, blockchain-based businesses and organizations.
“Blockchain is a new technology that enables parties exchange or transfer anything of value—money, assets, or property—without any need for trust between parties and also without any need for a trusted intermediary such as a lawyer, bank, broker, insurer, etc. This is why it is called a trustless technology. It removes the need for intermediaries. It does this through an open, secure, transparent, one-on-one record system known as a distributed ledger technology”, explained Senator Iyere Ihenyen, resource person at the training program, Lead Partner at Infusion Lawyers, and presently the Vice Chairman (Policy & Regulations) and one of the promoters of the conceived Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SiBAN). Mr Ihenyen who last month delivered a presentation on Smart Contracts and the Law at the largest tech conference in West Africa, Techpoint Inspired, believes that Lawyers should take professional interest in Blockchain technology. He was also keynote speaker at Lagos-Nigeria Blockchain Conference organized by Blockchain Nigeria User Group in May 2018 where he spoke on ‘How Blockchain Will Help Law’.
Linus Kingdom is the Founder and CEO of eBlockbuzz, the blockchain media and education platform that is organizing the program alongside other education programs as part of its African Blockchain Education Tour 2019. According to Mr Kingdom, “Because of the critical advisory role that lawyers play, we have introduced Blockchain for Lawyers 101 to ensure that lawyers are not left behind. By introducing lawyers to the blockchain technology, we are not only equipping them with knowledge and skills but also safeguarding the blockchain space since they are the ones who will advise founders and managers of blockchain projects in the space. We encourage lawyers to attend this one-day training program.”
Meanwhile, three winners whose entries made the final list of winners in Blockchain for Lawyers 101 500-word challenge have emerged winners of free tickets to the training program. The lucky winners are Adedoyin Adeniran, Mukthar Mustapha, and Ruth Aiyegbusi.
Blockchain for Lawyers 101 is a special part of eBlockbuzz’s African Blockchain Education Tour 2019 program. Delegates from law firms, private organizations, and bar associations around the country are billed to attend Blockchain for Lawyers 101. The program will hold Friday 5 July 2019 at the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry Exhibition and Training Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, 9am to 5pm.
